The story of Literary Seeds
Words have always been central to my life—from studying English at Oxford to earning an MA in Screenwriting, and then thirty years writing for TV and digital media. I was finally making real progress with my own screenplays, placing well in competitions… until Covid hit and my world changed forever.
Long Covid affected my brain. I can no longer think or write the way I used to. The articulate, lyrical language I once took for granted has slipped away, leaving behind simple, functional words—and often the wrong ones. Writing these stories to accompany my paintings, once as natural as breathing, has become a struggle to shape swirling thoughts into something coherent. Dictating them took time. Losing my love of language has been a deep grief.
At school, I loved Art and English equally. I chose eventually English for my degree but kept art as a hobby. My career blended both, so I had the best of both worlds. When Long Covid took my writing, art became my primary way to express myself. I believe combining art and language will shape my future work.
This painting is the first step. The stems of the mono-printed tissue flowers are collaged from book pages—storytelling woven into the landscape, layers of meaning in every detail.
If you’ve ever felt the frustration of losing something you love, or struggled to express what matters most, this piece is for you. It’s a reminder that even when words fail, creativity always finds a way—and from that place, new stories and new hope can bloom.
